Dear Red Shirts
Dear Red Shirts,
I do not mind your protesting, your red flag flying, or being surrounded by this conflict in the place where I took mental refuge. Not at all. In fact, looking past the misfortune that there's a reason to protest in the first place, I think it's kind of neat to be able to see politics in action. It's a highlight of humanity and I support your right to speak out and be heard.
And oh, have I heard you! I heard you months ago when you were standing on the corner in front of the American Embassy smiling and passing out pamphlets (which I would have loved to read, however, I'm still a bit undereducated when it comes to the local language). I heard you when you drove your tuk tuks down the street holding megaphones and spreading your message to your fellow people. I also heard you when you poured blood at the gate of the current Prime Ministers home. I heard you when you caused so much traffic in the streets of Bangkok that roads were shut down. I have heard you an innumerable amount of times. I continue to hear you daily on my way into town and I continue to support your right to be heard.
However, it is my understanding that Red Shirt party may be responsible for the explosions and attempted bombings in the past few weeks. One site in particular I could throw a rock at from the balcony of my apartment. And yes, I heard that too. This, I do not appreciate. You are scaring my mother. Please try to refrain from blowing me up when I go to get money from an ATM or use a public phone. I would like to survive and certainly prefer living out the rest of my life in one whole piece rather than as an amputee. I'm sure there are many other people who would prefer that as well. Also, I do not seem to be able to understand the benefit of blowing up your own people. I hear you loud and clear without the deadly and seemingly senseless attacks.
Still I continue to support your right to be heard but please, don't blow stuff up.
Sincerely,
A Concerned Immigrant
